Beaks'n'teeth

The morning we left Tarcoles we got up early and drove with Ardeth and Annie to Villa Lapas, a small hotel up a ravine favoured by birders.  As you'll see below (sorry I can't intersperse pics with text here), we were rewarded with a pair of Toucans.  Nothing beats a toucan for absurdity and cuteness, except two toucans flirting!

Then on up a steep winding road to the top of the valley, where there's (yet another) stunning view over the rainforest and the Pacific, and also a couple of small hotels with great design using a lot of stucco and local wood.  Being open to the elements adds a huge dimension that's impossible in the Canadian climate.  We're constantly astounded by the lack of bugs, even on the wetter Carribean coast. Not fair!

On the way out of Tarcoles there's a popular bridge where the crocodiles gather to wait for hapless birds, fish and clumsy tourists.  They're really primitive and gruesome monsters, all reptilian and muddy.  Somebody should do something!!
